At McNak we hear a lot about the positives as well as the challenges of organizations from the applicants we interview. And we think that employees have good ‘in-sight’ for the most part! This is an interesting and visually ‘easy on the eyes’ post from Business Week Magazine:
We all have blind spots—even the best and greatest of leaders. And too often those unproductive behaviors that are invisible to us but are glaring to everyone else create dire consequences for you, your team, and your company. Here’s a look at 10 common blind spots for leaders and managers, and advice for recognizing and overcoming them.
Monday, September 23rd, 1996. That was the day our company was born.
Today, we celebrate 13 years of doing what we love, and doing what we do best….
Ever since that magical day in 1996 McNak has stayed true to its roots and continues to colour outside the lines. We are still crazy about positive experiences after all these years, McNak enjoys every day conjuring up new ways to make ourselves and others smile. And yes we will always be a remarkable staffing company, but we’d really just like to make someone’s day a bit brighter.
Our commitment to fun lives on. Its just the McNak way.
Fall is historically a time of change but also a time for reflection. Three quarters of the way through the calendar year and only months away from your next new years resolutions. I know I’m reposting in doing this but a glowing comment from one of my team mates today reminded me of how much I love Benjamin Zander. Not only is he engaging in this Ted talk but he is just as animated in his book, The Art of Possibility. Just like the Ted talk, Zander’s book makes you want to absorb it again and again. It just feels good.
The TED summary: Benjamin Zander has two infectious passions: classical music, and helping us all realize our untapped love for it — and by extension, our untapped love for all new possibilities, new experiences, new connections.
You should find it’s worth every second of the 20 minutes of his presentation. What an outstanding creator of storytelling and an ability to inspire!
Are you memorable? The ostrich with its head in the sand is what immediately came to mind. We’ve seen a tremendous upward shift in job market confidence. Many new positions are being created and new opportunities found.
This Fast Company article offers timely insight in what to do to keep yourself in ‘A’ level top grading status.
Don’t get stuck – feel the fear and move bravely forward because if you aren’t leading, where are you?
Another great TED talk. Alain de Botton is a Swiss writer and Entrepreneur. Alain’s discussions have a philosphical style with an emphasis to everyday life.
Alain decribes that it’s easier now than ever before to make a good living; it’s harder than ever before to stay calm, free of career anxiety.
The idea that success is, a lot more ‘haphazard’ as de Botton would say, is examined closely in Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers.
This 17 minute TED.com video takes a look at some of the reasons why. Alain has a lively way of talking about the philosophy of success. It’s easily relatable and certain to make you smile.
