What’s your Social Media recipe?

Social Media is about exactly that, being social. What’s the point in doing it if you aren’t comfortable to show who you really are.  At McNak we have truly fallen for social media.  We think it has brought out more of our authentic self than we could initially have imagined.

What’s your recipe for social media in its abilities to show who you really are, or are you not yet ready to share?  Mat Wilcox, CEO and founder of  public relations and social media firm Wilcox Group says “if you are not in social media you are a dinosaur and missing key opportunities and potentially doing your company harm.”

The beat of an organization

I recently attended the 2010 HRMA conference. The theme of the conference was People, Passion, Profit. There was a surprise plenary on the agenda to kick off the conference. With much anticipated curiosity and anticipation I waited outside the room with other fellow HRMA attendees. Our curiosity was rewarded when we were finally allowed to enter the conference room. To my surprise the conference seats where lined with 1000 drums! We spent most of the 40 minutes learning about how the power of sound can move a group together. It was a powerful message: Before you can move forward cohesively as a group you need to start with a united baseline.

This metaphor for ‘finding a team’s rhythm’ is something we have done for years now at McNak. While we don’t do it with drums or music we have found our rhythm in the pulse of our weekly company wide meeting that we have every Monday morning. Originally inspired by Verne Harnish in his book The Rockefeller Habits, we have truly made it our own. By having our whole team united at one time has really made a difference in the cohesiveness of how we move forward with our own individual goals. This brief meeting also carves out time for our whole team to be present to celebrate individual and team successes. And now if only we could just nail our McNak theme song…..

Grape Juice raises 54K for Big Sisters

We are very pleased with last week’s Grape Juice event at the V Lounge at Earls Yaletown.

To reflect that 2010 is the 50th anniversary of Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland, our goal was to raise $50,000 at Grape Juice this year.

We are happy to announce that we exceeded our goal, and the total funds raised at the May 6th Grape Juice event was $54,000

For reference, Grape Juice 2007 and Grape Juice 2008 raised $11,900 and $28,500 respectively.

A highlight of the evening was when Riley Inge, the singer formerly with the legendary group, The Temptations, sang a few classic songs for Grape Juice guests. The surprise performance was much appreciated by everyone!

CameronMcNeill.com and McNeill Nakamoto created Grape Juice to raise much needed funds to facilitate the matching process for over 100 at risk young girls on the Big Sisters waitlist.

Big Sisters of BC lower Mainland matches volunteer mentors with young girls who face a multitude of challenges. Many of the young children suffer from low-self esteem and social isolation due to poverty, abuse or neglect. For every Little Sister that is successfully matched with a volunteer mentor, a quiet revolution of hope takes place. It costs $2,000 to make and maintain one Big & Little Sister match for one year.

A big thank you to all of our generous Grape Juice sponsors , donors and volunteers!

Corporate Culture Minute

Part of McNak’s corporate culture is our connection to community. Tonight, May 6th we are hosting GrapeJuice, a Wine Auction we created in 2007 to raise funds for Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland. This is an event very close to our hearts, and it is what brings us together.
