Is Corporate Philanthropy part of your Culture?

Corporate philanthropy has always been a big part of McNeill Nakamoto’s culture. Tonight we are hosting the 6th annual GrapeJuice wine auction & tasting benefiting Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland. Big Sisters is our main philanthropic focus, but we continue to support our community as a whole in many different ways.

Many years ago, when we were a young company, we became one of the original participants of the Social Purchasing Portal (SPP). The SPP provides an on-line environment for business-to-business procurement transactions to leverage community economic development activity. This group of businesses, through their procurement policies and buying from the list of SPP suppliers, put social corporate responsibility into practice and create a social value for the community.

When we make decisions about suppliers McNak uses, we look to see if there are other members in the portal. One such member is Mills Basics. They are our office supplier of choice, and this video illustrates the great reasons why. On top of their corporate social responsibility, Mills Basics provides excellent customer service, and as their customer, we certainly appreciate it.

Does your company’s philanthropic efforts complement your corporate culture?

Without our attachment to community and, in particular, offering brighter futures for young people, we would be missing such a key piece of our corporate soul. Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland is McNeill Nakamoto’s primary philanthropy and active focus.

“We wanted to help young girls make good choices and give them a chance to succeed” ~ Sarah McNeill

It’s The Right Thing To Do

It all started with one bottle of Hawthorn Mountain late harvest wine.

The year was 2006 and McNeill Nakamoto Recruitment Group was celebrating 10 years in business. We had a little party at our office, inviting clients and friends. Just a few weeks before the party, our team had a great idea to add a philanthropy element to our festivities, and host a modest silent auction benefiting Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland. We had already been a big supporter since 2005 , but true to our McNak spirit we wanted to do something different, and give our staff the opportunity to become directly involved.

Several merchants in our Yaletown neighbourhood generously donated items for the silent auction. The night arrived, people celebrated, and enjoyed bidding on many wonderful items.

The most popular item which received the most bids was that bottle of wine, donated by one of our staff members. It was during this evening that the idea of ‘GrapeJuice’ was born. Just a few months later we put together the first wine auction benefiting Big Sisters of Lower Mainland. Tomorrow night will be the 5th annual GrapeJuice wine auction.

Corporate social responsibility is part of our soul. It’s the right thing to do.

GrapeJuice raises $67,000 for Big Sisters

We are happy to announce that last night’s Grape Juice event at Society in Yaletown raised $67,000 for Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland.

Since 2007, GrapeJuice has raised $161,900 for Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland.

A highlight of the evening was when Fred Lee conducted our Sponsor-A-Match live auction, which alone, raised $24,50 in a matter of minutes. The Grape Juice guests were entertained by Fred’s enthusiasm.

CameronMcNeill.com and McNeill Nakamoto created Grape Juice to raise much needed funds to facilitate the matching process for over 190 at risk young girls on the Big Sisters waitlist.

Big Sisters of BC lower Mainland matches volunteer mentors with young girls who face a multitude of challenges. Many of the young children suffer from low-self esteem and social isolation due to poverty, abuse or neglect. For every Little Sister that is successfully matched with a volunteer mentor, a quiet revolution of hope takes place. It costs $2,000 to make and maintain one Big & Little Sister match for one year.

A big thank you to all of our generous GrapeJuice sponsors , donors, guests and volunteers!
